“Meet the Mets”

When “Meet the Mets” (1961) introduced New Yorkers to their new National League team, not even the song’s composers expected the ditty to last long. But generations of fans from the “east side, west side” ensured its longevity. On October 23, 2015, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA), having lost a bet to super-fan Congressman Steve Israel (D-NY), talk-sang “Meet the Mets” on the House floor, before saying, “Mr. Speaker, please tell me my time has expired.”
