Perspectives on Marriage

Drawing with streamlined elegance, Ann Telnaes achieves a perfect balance between main figures, setting, and decorative detail in this scene that at first appears to celebrate the 2003 Massachusetts Supreme Court ruling that gay couples have the right to marry. However, Telnaes wryly observed that the traditional view of marriage between a man and a woman has resulted in second class citizenship for many people in America for a long time.
