Helga Sandburg was born in Maywood, Illinois, in 1918. The daughter of renowned poet and novelist Carl Sandburg, Helga is the author of 17 books, including The Wheel of Earth (1958), Joel and the Wild Goose (1963), and The Age of the Flower (1994). Her writing varied from novels and memoirs to children’s books and poetry, among other forms. Sandburg worked at the Library of Congress and served as an American Specialist in England and Europe for the State Department’s Bureau of Cultural and Educational Affairs. She died in 2014.
