Biographies Reed Whittemore 1919-2012

Whittemore (1919-2012) was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He is the author of 11 books of poetry, including Heroes & Heroines (1946), The Self-Made Man (1959), Poems, New and Selected (1967), and The Season of Waiting: Selected Poems: 1946-2006 (2007), as well as a biography of William Carlos Williams. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, Whittemore taught at Carleton College in Minnesota. He was the founding editor of Furioso, later known as Carleton Miscellany. A professor of English at the University of Maryland from 1967-84, Whittemore died in College Park, Maryland, in 2012.
