Biographies Suresh Dalal (1932-2012)

Suresh Dalal was born in Thane, India, in 1932. A Gujurati poet, he authored eight collections, including Ekant (1966), Astitva (1973), and Ghatana (1984). As a professor, Dalal taught Gujurati at many schools in India before leaving academia to start his publishing firm, Image Publications and Writings. A champion of languages, he also translated many poems into Gujurati in order to introduce Gujarati speakers to poetry from other languages. Dalal was the recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2005, and was awarded the Gujurat Government Award on five occasions. He died in 2012.
