Katherine Garrison Chapin was born in Waterford, Connecticut, in 1890. Her seven volumes of poetry include Bright Mariner (1933), Time Has No Shadow (1936), and The Other Journey (1959). She also wrote two plays, The Tapestry of the Duchess (1925) and Sojourner Truth (1948). Some of her poems were set to music and performed by groups including the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. She was one of the original Fellows in American Letters of the Library of Congress, and also a judge for the National Book Award for poetry, the Shelley Memorial Award, and the Bollingen Prize. Chapin died in 1977.
