Anne Ridler was born in London, England, in 1912. A British poet, editor, and playwright, Ridler published 17 books of poems and verse plays before turning to the translation of librettos. She was awarded a Cholmondeley award for poetry from the Royal Society of Authors, and was honored as an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for services to literature. Ridler died in 2001.
