Veronica Geng was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1941. An acclaimed humorist and editor, her essays regularly appeared in The New Republic and The New Yorker, and for many years she reviewed books for The New York Times and the Village Voice. From 1976-1992, Geng wrote for The New Yorker, where she became an assistant fiction editor. Collections of her writing have appeared in Partners (1984), Love Trouble is My Business (1988), and Love Trouble: New and Collected Work (1999), which was published posthumously. She died in 1997.
