Karen Alkalay-Gut was born in London in 1945 and grew up in Rochester, New York. She is the author of more than 20 volumes of poetry in both Hebrew and English, including Avra Cadivra (2013) and Nisim vechulei (2012). She also wrote a biography of Victorian poet Adelaide Crapsey, Alone in the Dark: The Life of Adelaide Crapsey (1988). Alkalay-Gut lives in Israel and is a professor at Tel Aviv University.
