David Michael Kaplan was born in New York City in 1946. He has written two short story collections, Comfort (1987) and Skating in the Dark (1991); and two editions of a writing guide, Revision: A Creative Approach to Writing and Rewriting Fiction (1997) and Rewriting (1998). His stories have won the Nelson Agren Award for short fiction, and his story “Doe Season” was named one of the Best American Short Stories of 1985. He currently lives in Chicago, Illinois, and teaches writing at Loyola University.
