Dean Young was born in Columbia, Pennsylvania, in 1955. He is the author of more than 10 books of poetry, including Elegy on Toy Piano (2006), Fall Higher (2011), and Shock by Shock (2015). His many awards include a Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters as well as fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. He has taught in the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and the low-residency MFA program at Warren Wilson College, and is currently the William Livingston Chair of Poetry at the University of Texas–Austin.
